Friday's (Books) Contest!

I love books - especially photography and photoshop books! They have so much good information and beautiful example images. If I didn't take my 2 year old with me to the book store, I could spend hours looking through all of the books in their photography section!

My favorite photography books are all by Bryan Petersen: Understanding Exposure, Learning to See Creatively, and Understanding Shutter Speed. I love the way that he explains different elements of design and composition, creative use of aperture and shutter speed, and the examples in the books are wonderful!

Last spring, Understanding Shutter Speed, by Bryan Petersen was released. I absolutely love this book! It is packed with inspiring images, great information, and even some great how-to scenarios.
Friday's contest is about books. What kind of photography or related books do you like?

To enter the contest, you must be a follower of this blog, and leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite book. Comments must be posted today before 10:00 p.m. MST. One winner will be randomly chosen to receive one brand new copy of Understanding Shutter Speed by Bryan Petersen.Your comment doesn't have to be related to this blog, and it doesn't have to be different that everyone else's! Just tell me what your favorite book is. The winner will be posted tomorrow morning here on the blog. The winner must contact me via email phototips@alexismiller.com within 48 hours.

I was waiting to see what this contest was about today. I agree that Brian Petersen is great .. Understanding Exposure is one that I use. Seems like alot of my photos are either under or over exposed. I am HUGE fan of Darren Rowse. I don't have any of his books or cd'd but receive emails weekly that really help me out with tips and things. It's funny that I look back and laugh now because the first photography book that I had was Photoshop for Dummies :)!

I as well love BP's Understanding Exposure. I borrowed it from a friend then bought a used one. This is one of those books that I won't ever sell. In fact I'm going to read it again this weekend. I'd LOVE to learn more about SS and certain situations.

Favorite book ever? Emily of New Moon. Favorite photography book? Yeah, gotta go with Understanding Exposure.

I am a big fan of Bryan Peterson, I currently own Understanding Exposure, Learning to See Creatively, and my favorite Peterson book which is Beyond Portraiture. While I find the first two extremely helpful and I have learned so much from them, Creative Portraiture inspires me and helps me to see the best way to capture someone's true-self in a photograph. It would be great to expand my Peterson library :)

I don't own very many photography books, but I love the ones I have.
Portrait Photography by Mark Cleghorn, How to Photograph Children by Lisa Jane, Portrait Photography Handbook by Monte Zucker, Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson and of course my current favorite PS book is by Scoot Kelby.

I admit I find it hard to read some of the technical books. My favorites are the collections of images of famous photogs. Especially Ansel Adams. I travel to National Parks (and work in one!) and love to draw inspiration from the images I've seen and then get *my* take on the subject.

love bryan peterson's. and i also really love the photo workshop books. i have learned soooo much through books and i have a long list of more that i want to get. this one that you are giving away is on that list! :)

If it's written by Scott Kelby or Robin Williams I'm probably going to at the very least take a look at them.

Kelby's Down & Dirty books are great to get the effects that professionals use. Robin Williams books are more for design which is good for putting together marketing material or even decorative layouts. Plus she gets you to think as a designer which really helps me when composing shots.

Hands down my favorite book has been Bryan Petersen: Understanding Exposure. Unfortunately I haven't read any of his other books yet. But after taking an online photography course (trying to learn manual mode) I still felt lost. I read this book and had an "aha moment". He is an amazing photographer and what a great tool his book was/is.

But I would def love to get my hands any Brian Peterson or Scott Kelby book. But, my fav book of all time would have to be Where the Red Fern Grows. I'm a huge fan of Scott Kelby's books - I have his Digital Photography Books vol. 1 and 2 and his Lightroom book and love them!

I have BP's Understanding Exposure and need to pull it out and read through it again now that I'm shooting in Manual most of the time. I've got his Beyond Portraiture & People in Focus books from the library right now and I'm looking forward to reading those soon. I'd love to have his Understanding Shutter Speed, it's been on my wish list for awhile now!

I JUST bought Understanding Exposure after so many people recommended it. I haven't read it from cover to cover yet but at first glance it looks great.

I also love the inspiration I get from other people's photography, so I have a passion for good coffee table books.

Today's challenge has left me speechless... I don't own any photography books, unless my camera manual counts (which I have read COVER to COVER...twice). I mostly read small "how-to's" online. Looks like I am missing out on some good learning material. :) Happy Friday!

I have to agree with you I love Bryan Peterson, I didn't know he had understanding shutter speed though! I own Understanding Exposure and really like it because of all his travel photography pictures! I love to travel and find his shots so inspirational. I like how he tells you what his settings are and how you can achieve shots like his. His bright colorful pages and easily undserstood explanations make his book a fav to me!

My new favorite book is Understanding Exposure. But, I also like the first how-to photography learning book I got. It's called "Learn Photography in a Weekend" and I got it when I was about 10 years old. I recently re-discovered it in a box of old books of mine.
